A December to Remember: Culinary Adventures in the City

December brings with it a festive spirit, a time for family outings, catching up with friends, and of course, exploring the culinary delights our city has to offer. From cozy family dinners after a day at the aquarium to catching up with coworkers over some unique brews, here’s a rundown of some memorable dining experiences this month.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza: A Family Favorite Post-Aquarium Adventure

Our family day at the aquarium left us all famished and ready for some comforting food. Stumbling upon Mountain Mike’s Pizza was a fortunate twist to our day. We opted for the Chicken Club and Pike's Peak pizzas, both of which proved to be an instant hit with the family. While the initial sticker shock of the bill gave us pause, the quality and flavor of the pizzas quickly dispelled any regrets. It was heartening to watch the girls enjoy their meal so thoroughly, making the price tag feel like a fair trade-off for such satisfying eats.

Sasa Kitchen: A Hidden Gem Discovered Post-Zoo Exploration

Following a fun-filled visit to the Hogle Zoo, we ventured to Sasa Kitchen, a spot we’d never tried before, despite its proximity to our old neighborhood. The family-owned vibe and authenticity of this Chinese restaurant immediately won us over. From the pan-fried noodles with beef to the sweet and sour chicken and the always-favorite General T’sao chicken, every dish was a hit. The egg drop soup that accompanied our meal was a warm welcome on a chilly December day. Not only was the food delightful, but the leftovers promised a repeat of this delicious meal the following day.

Red Rock Brewery: An Evening of Good Food, Beer, and Company

Red Rock Brewery is a staple for good food and brews in the city. A coworker and I, along with Madi, decided to try out their new beer, Fukiphino, which had come highly recommended. Opting for the French Onion Steak sandwich (and succumbing to my indecision between fries and horseradish mashed potatoes by getting both) proved to be a wise choice. The meal, coupled with the beer, was the perfect way to unwind after a long day. While the service was just okay, the quality of the food and the chance to have a heart-to-heart with a coworker more than made up for it. Madi, as always, was a perfect dining companion, happily enjoying her spaghetti.

Kobe Sushi: A Refreshing Meetup with Coworkers

Catching up with coworkers outside of the office is always refreshing, and Kobe Sushi provided the perfect backdrop for our reunion. The restaurant’s open layout and proximity to the sushi bar added to the experience, and the waitstaff was notably personable and attentive. Opting for a family-style dining approach, we shared the Executive, Freshie, and Rainbow rolls, steering clear of tempura or deep-fried options in favor of fresh, vibrant flavors. The consensus was unanimous: the fish was exceptionally fresh, and each roll brought something unique to the table.

December’s dining escapades served not just as culinary explorations but as reminders of the joy found in sharing meals with loved ones and friends. Each restaurant visit, from the spontaneous to the planned, added layers of flavor and happiness to the festive season, creating memories that extend far beyond the palate. These experiences underscored the city’s diverse culinary landscape, promising many more adventures to come.
