Bouncing Back with a Bang: My Journey in Orangetheory’s Transformation Challenge

Embarking on a fitness journey post-pregnancy was a big decision for me, and I found the perfect opportunity with Orangetheory’s annual Transformation Challenge. January 2023 marked a significant moment in my life, aligning my return to the gym post-C-section complications with the commencement of this transformative event.

Orangetheory has been a part of my life since 2015, playing a vital role in building my endurance and aiding in my post-pregnancy recovery. However, I had never participated in the Transformation Challenge before, as I never truly believed I could win. This year felt different; it was time to challenge myself and at least start making healthier food choices. To support my journey, I chose the Renaissance Periodization (RP) breastfeeding diet template, despite its lack of integration into the RP app, which I found to be more user-friendly. With the help of my husband Erik, who also decided to diet, I was able to navigate my nutritional needs.

I committed to attending Orangetheory classes 5-7 times a week, just as I had done before welcoming my baby Jules into the world. However, I quickly realized that I had to take things slow, particularly with running. Despite the initial challenges, I noticed a significant improvement in my mental health within just a week.

But the journey wasn’t without its hiccups. As I began to lose weight rapidly, I noticed an impact on my breastmilk production. Ensuring I could provide for Jules was my top priority. So, I decided to adjust my diet to preserve my milk production, even if it meant I couldn’t push myself as hard in the challenge.

Two Months Before, Right Before, Two Months After the Transformation Challenge

By the end of the challenge, I had reduced my body fat percentage from 31.1% to 21.1% and lost over 10 lbs. I didn’t win the grand $5000 prize, but I did win at my studio. More importantly, I rediscovered my love for the gym, improved my mental wellbeing, and felt healthier and more balanced.

This journey was more than a challenge; it was a learning experience, teaching me to balance the demands of motherhood with personal health and fitness goals. I realized that transformation is not just about losing weight or winning challenges; it’s about finding balance, prioritizing health, and embracing the journey, no matter where it leads.
