There are moments in life that call for a celebration, and for Erik and me, that moment came not too long ago. Eager to mark the occasion, we decided to head over to Grid City Beer Works, a local gem known for its unique approach to crafting beer. It was a perfect opportunity to enjoy some quality time together while the girls were still in daycare, making the most of the hours we'd already paid for.
As we walked into Grid City, the first thing that struck us was the innovative way they serve their beers. They have a fascinating trio - the Honey Cream Ale, Pale Ale, and Brown Ale - each available in three distinct styles: Cask, Nitro, or CO2. For those who may not know, CO2 is the traditional American method of carbonating beer. Nitro, on the other hand, uses a lighter gas for a richer, creamier head and smoother texture. Cask style is a bit more traditional for British beers, served warmer and with a unique character.
In a bid to fully experience what Grid City had to offer, Erik opted for a flight of the three beers, all served cask style. I decided to venture into their craft cocktail menu, choosing a delightful Nitro Float that blended local whiskey with their Nitro Brown Ale. The combination was both innovative and delicious, a testament to the creativity of the brewery.
Turning our attention to the food, I couldn't resist ordering their chicken tenders with Thai chili sauce and fries, while Erik went for the GC smash burger. While the menu had a familiar bar-food feel, the Thai chili sauce on the tenders was a game-changer, adding a delicious twist to a classic dish.
But Grid City Beer Works had more surprises in store. They also craft high-point seltzers, an intriguing addition to their beverage lineup. With intriguing flavors like Rosè, Aperitif, Elderflower, Raspberry Sage, and Peach Bellini, we couldn’t resist taking a few cans home to try. Another interesting aspect of Utah's liquor laws came into play here; since draft beers can't exceed 5% alcohol by volume, we also grabbed some of Grid City's IPA to enjoy at home. This IPA, while not radically different from others, offered a refreshing and well-balanced hoppy taste without being too overpowering.
Back at home, we sampled the seltzers, finding that they all shared a dominant wine-like flavor profile, yet each had its unique twist. The experience of trying these varied and unique flavors was enjoyable, adding another layer to our celebration.
In conclusion, our visit to Grid City Beer Works was not just a celebration of our good news but also a celebration of local craftsmanship and innovation in brewing. The atmosphere, the unique serving styles of their beers, and the delicious food all contributed to a memorable experience. Whether you're a beer aficionado or just looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a good meal and a drink, Grid City Beer Works is definitely worth a visit. We left with full hearts, satisfied palates, and the knowledge that we had a new favorite spot to return to for future celebrations.
