June's Gastronomic Journeys: Celebrations, Casual Eats, and Cool Treats

Our culinary adventures took us from festive birthday celebrations to cool dessert stops and savory dining experiences. As we welcomed the warmth of summer, our family explored a variety of eateries, each offering unique flavors and memorable moments. From quick bites to leisurely meals, here's a glimpse into our delightful and diverse dining experiences throughout the month.

Dominos Pizza - Madi’s 4th Birthday Bash

June kicked off with a festive backyard celebration for Madi’s 4th birthday. After an exhilarating day at the park with friends, family, and our dog Maple, we opted for an easy and crowd-pleasing lunch from Domino's Pizza. With a mix of cheese, pepperoni, veggie, BBQ chicken, and deluxe pizzas, along with garlic knots and fresh trays of veggies and fruits, there was something for everyone. The kids particularly loved the pepperoni pizzas and garlic knots, leaving us with an abundance of cheese and veggie pizzas as leftovers. We also enjoyed a chocolate sheet cake from Costco which was a hit.

Laziz Kitchen - A Mediterranean Delight

A work lunch at Laziz Kitchen introduced me to this delightful spot in Midvale. Opting for the Mediterranean Platter with Kafta, the combination of hummus, rice, tabbouleh salad, and pita, complemented by some extra tzatziki sauce, was a hit. The meal wouldn't be complete without baklava for dessert, which was as decadent as expected.

Cold Stone Creamery - A Sweet Treat to Beat the Heat

After a warm day, a visit to Cold Stone Creamery was in order. Opting for flavors like Mud Pie Mojo, Cake Batter Batter Batter, and Birthday Blast, each choice was a hit. The kids were particularly thrilled with their selections, and even though they eyed my coffee-infused treat, the rich flavors of their own ice creams were distraction enough.

Penny Ann’s Café - A Post-Photoshoot Brunch

Following a morning family photo session downtown, we enjoyed a hearty brunch at Penny Ann’s Café. The wait was shorter than anticipated, allowing us to quickly dive into dishes like breakfast nachos and the pot of gold. Madi’s bear-shaped pancake was a visual treat, though she preferred nibbling on bacon and licking off whipped cream. The highlight for me was the heavenly hot cakes, a must-have at Penny Ann’s.

Marie Calendar’s - A Mixed Experience with a Nostalgic Dessert

A craving for Marie Calendar's fresh strawberry pies, reminiscent of my childhood, led us there. While the kids enjoyed their pasta and Erik his burger, my shepherd's pie was disappointingly salty. However, the banana cream pie and the strawberry pie we took home somewhat redeemed the meal. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding about a promotion marred the experience with a service letdown.

Xing Fu Tang - A Refreshing Boba Break

After Madi’s doctor appointment, we stopped by Xing Fu Tang for some boba drinks. The fresh passionfruit refresher tea was a hit for me, and while Madi enjoyed her visually appealing blue soda and jelly drink, it wasn't to my taste. Erik’s classic brown sugar boba milk tea delivered exactly what we expected.

Level Crossing Brewery - A Rare Couple's Retreat

A spontaneous stop at Level Crossing Brewery offered Erik and me a brief respite to enjoy some quality time. We sampled a couple of sours and indulged in delicious pizzas, with the White Out pizza being a personal favorite. The blend of flavors, especially the addition of mushrooms and sausage, made for a memorable meal.

Bandits’ Grill and Bar - A Father’s Day Feast

Father’s Day at Bandits’ Grill and Bar was exactly what Erik had hoped for. The restaurant offered a diverse menu that catered to all our tastes. The kids enjoyed tri-tip and pulled pork nachos, while Erik savored his hickory burger. My cocktail, the grilled pineapple mint cooler, was refreshing, and the vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant added to our enjoyment.

June’s dining experiences were filled with celebrations, new culinary discoveries, and moments of indulgence that brought joy to our family. Each restaurant visit offered unique flavors and memories, making this month a delightful gastronomic journey.
